Awesome fun out here today in Chicago! Snow totals at O'Hare International Airport @ 10:00 A.M. EST read 20"! This is the official measure point in Chicago. The outlying areas to the south and east saw more!
High winds caused drifting snow to block portions of Lake Shore Drive. I'm in the heart of the northside in the Portage Park neighborhood. Alleys are blocked, sidewalks only just begun to be cleared, and the side streets are impassable.
Last night during the RMPS we saw lightning and heard thunder, relatively rare here. I'm sure you guys in Canada are used to that! No damage to the trees here that I've seen as of yet, but I was only outside briefly to clear the walkway.
I'll be out later to offer help to neighbors. I'll try to post some pictures here, if successful I'll take more and post those later. Finally! After years of hearing of the snowfalls out east, I can enjoy our own real snow of over 10"! I was raised in up-state New York, where we would see totals of over 100" each year. My children can now see what it means to have over a foot and a half of snow on the ground.
