Both had to get up and do the mad dash to make sure the engine stopped running. The slow-mo of Hayden crouching in the gravel looking at his arm when 'WTF is that sound?' comes over him and he then jumps up and runs through the gravel like someone set his shorts on fire is interesting to watch.

Spies put it all on the line that lap and "left nothing out there" to score his first pole position. Clearly the conditions for today's session were borderline brutal, hot and the track looking extra bumpy and slick. Spies would not predict a win tomorrow, saying he would never get that far ahead of ourselves".
Nicky Hayden smiled for the first time, really smiled, since Indy last year. "Two Americans on the front row, this is huge," he said.

| RA, pics of those guys so close to the asphalt is scary. Not sure how those bikes don't just fly off from the track. Must be really "sticky" tires or invisible rails. | |

| Thats crazy! 240hp hauling only about 500lbs around the track.
Thats why they stick Ace, they weigh between a quarter and a fifth as much as most cars with about half the grip(2 tires compared to four).
Some sweet pics. | |

| Spies leads into turn 3 on the first lap of 28. He continued to lead for 8 laps before losing the lead to eventual race winner #26 Dani Pedrosa on the Repsol Honda. Spies cruised to a comfortable 2nd place finish and his best result to date in his Rookie MotoGP season. | |
