PostSubject: Clean Online Racing Rules. Thoughts?   Wed Nov 17 2010, 09:00

Hey all,

Just wanted to put this topic out there to see what we all think about racing 'boundaries' during Online races. There are certain areas on certain tracks that maybe shouldn't be actively used like the first and last turns at Fuji (where you can run out very wide without penalty). I think we should always try to maintain at least two wheels on the rumble strips which would constitute the Track Boundary. This is not to say we won't run out wider from time to time, just that we should try 'not' to on purpose.

Please let me know your thoughts on this and any other issues/rules for online races that you might have.

Thanks, WD.

"Two wheels" is the standard for all the pro level teams. I don't think we need to discuss this. IT IS NOW LAW.

Another issue needs a friendly reminder. If you make contact with another driver which interferes with their race (crashes / forced off track), the offending driver MUST WAIT AND GIVE BACK THE POSITION.

Please feel free to add any other concerns/improvements regarding the WRE.

Thanks for bringing this up WD.

i feel the same way but i am guilty of going wide out of turn 1 at fuji myself.mostly to avoid traffic as well. but in a real race car you would never do the same , only if a emergency would you . good call black jack. lets keep it real. more fun that way . and don no sweat, i think we all know you race as fair as you can bro. were not perfect racing robots. well some of us arent lol.just kidding bro.

Right on with previous statments guys. In the heat of races, particularly with such serious competition, it's easy to blow a line, overcook a turn, or lose track of where everyone is. Such are the perils of racing. Just glad none of us has to pay to get our Astons fixed! You know what these things cost?
As we race together, we can occasionally forget to follow standards we all adhere to. Easy to go off-line to save a bad entry, less so to ignor the tempation to execute a pass to get around a car 'holding you up'. Fernando Alonso lost the world championship by having the bad luck of exiting an early pit behind a 'slower' car. Lap after lap, he had to agonize over how to make a pass to gain position. Cold reality set in soon under the realization that there was no clear way past Petrov in his Renault.
I know we all do our best. I know we are all honest with each other. When I line up with my friends and teammates, the last thing I worry about is the quality of thier skill. I know they won't do anything untoward to gain a position. I know they are RIP,and they won't just roll over. They will run hard and they will run clean. And I wouldn't rather it any other way! Thank you!

There's a saying in NASCAR...."Rubbin' is racin'". Even though I would never intentionally wreck anybody, I'm not afraid to use the front bumper, and I don't complain if the bumper is used on me. I take a NASCAR approach to each and every race. I understand that contact, incidental or not, is part of the game, especially when a championship is at stake....we race for points in WREs, right? I mean, drivers complained about Earnhardt in his early years, but he ended up being what racing was all about. He didn't win 7 championships by being a softie on the track. There is a difference between being aggressive and being a moron.

This will be subject to people's very vast opinions. I for one race even the robot CPU racers cleanly, granted those are less unpredictable than real online racers, racing CPU can teach us steady driving. We practice enough with each other that we should be able to successfully represent RIP with elite driving performance around any other drivers.

We already have a status out there as good clean, fast pleasant drivers; we can only get better with practice. What we sould be looking at is this factor; if you're good enough to get into a team, improving your driving should be paramount and worthwhile. If it's not, you should evaluate why you joined.

Our problem with this thread will be that due to the size of our team, there is going to be many attitudes influencing positive or even structured criticism; and some apples are always rotten in the cart. We have seen how some of our team buck the system and drive without prestige in mind.

If we're going to open this can of worms, we'd better be prepared to hold the feeding frenzy accountable. If we can't do that, we may want to scale back the seriousness in which we approach some of our decisions.

We have the code of ethics now, as we've always had; and we've seen how it can push driver's away (to their loss not ours), we may miss them but this will happen for a reason.

So, what I mean in all this long winded verbal spewing is that, we can be a serious structured team, that has fun between the serious times. We just need to poop or get off the pot. Either we have firm limits, or we don't.

Food for thought.

In F1, you need 4 tyres on the track.if you don't , you get flagged to pass thru penality.Contact denotes disqualification from event.i know how im driving, get the gt5p dream out of your heads, its reality now.

That's good to hear 5C. Maybe GT5 will adopt the same approach, then we don't need to worry about having our own 'Guidelines'.

Thanks for the replies too. Very Happy

So what about this week's WRE? Eiger is designed to drop your inside tires off. It's the reason there's no grass in every corner. Most rally tracks utilize corner cutting as a technique. Eiger is a rally track design.

Did I just hear a can opening? beathead

As a RIP member, everyone should be aware of their actions and how it would reflect on the entire team, be more considerate and dignified out there for the sake of the team's image. Place the team's best interest before any questionable personal or individual gains. Although a single individual's inapropriate actions does not necessarily make the entire team bad, but its always best if we do without. So, if we have to set "boundaries" on certain aspects of the racing out there, it's better that all RIP racers conform to them, especially if the majority is in compliance. If we are to race with others and expect others to race with us, it is to everyone's best interest that we are aware and is able to comply with any existing standard or rules of racing. Race hard but race clean, respectful of others and yourself. Race fast but race with realism in mind.

Just my 2 pennies worth. Smile

Eiger allows for 2 wheels on/off the track. The only place to really go off is after the tunnel. If you go off there, you're not going to improve your position.
